Taekwondo is simply a tool. And, like any tool, Taekwondo can be used for His kingdom. We are on mission for Christ.
Many people ask: “How could Taekwondo possibly be used in a Christian way?” Of course, there are always those who will give Taekwondo a bad name; using it for violence and intimidation. We try to do exactly the opposite; to use Taekwondo to show God’s love and compassion to others. Over the years, God has enabled Open Door Taekwondo to minister to others through many forms of missions: outreaches to the community, sports camps, mission trips, and demonstrations.
Each year we go on mission to Del Rio, TX and Acuna, MX to conduct a week long training and camp at Esperanza TKD ( a ministry of Esperanza Del Rio Community Church). For many, that week spent in Del Rio and Acuna is one of the "best, most fun, most tiring, and most fulfilling" weeks of our lives. The best way to describe the camps in Raleigh and Del Rio is VBS meets TKD. Obstacle courses and other fun stations are followed by TKD training with plenty of demonstrations and skits aimed at presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ step-by-step as the week progresses. The week ends with the campers showing their newfound TKD skills to family and friends and, if God so moves, lives given to Jesus Christ with an eternity set in heaven. |
